Hi,

Does anyone know if land rover ever made some comfy leather front seats to fit a 1988 defender 90.

Also, how does one go about carpeting the rear area, and fitting speakers to the inside. Is there anywhere that sells rear headliners?

try EXMOOR TRIM they do it all........part from the speakers.any motor store will help you there..

Ah, I thought by 'more homely' you meant some nice lace curtains, a fireplace and three ducks across the windscreen. Thinking about it, a fireplace wouldn't be such a bad idea considering how good the heaters are! Yes, I saw 90/110 leather seats advertised on EBay recently, I think they were from a special edition. Nothing to stop you having the existing ones re-covered in leather, I expect any decent upholsterer could do it - for a price. Carpeting should be easy enough, get something 'suitable for the purpose' from a car trimming shop (search the web) or if you want a nice piece of Wilton for that really homely feel, go to a carpet shop and buy an offcut and some double sided sticky tape. Or.. stick some carpet (with Evo-Stik) to some bits of plywood. You can then take them out when you take garden rubbish to the tip, or whatever. For one 90 I made a simple 12mm plywood platform which extended across the rear tub, sitting on each wheelarch and covered it in carpet. This gave me a good storage area under it and also cut down on noise.. It also made things left on top easier to reach from the front seats.. You could mount speakers above the windows either side of the back door. The cables can be run up behind the 'A' pillar' trim (either side of the windscreen) from the dash and along the roof/side panels channel - where the roof bolts to the top of the side panels (out of sight). Easy enough, just a matter of finding the right speakers..

I bought a 1985 90 a few years back and the previous owner fitted recaro full leather seats - most comfortable i've ever been in a landy!!

I put a picture of the Queen in mine along with the wifes lovely hand knitted anti-maccassas and a little shelf for my pipe it's quite home from home.

speaking of which. i watched "the full monty" again the other night and i reckon i know why you go down yer shed!!

And back to the real world...! Nationwide trim do re-trims in leather, their ad is top right on page 197 of the current LRO, or 01527 518851. At the moment there's a black leather front centre seat on EBay, seller says it's out of a 2001 110 special edition, so they are available from time to time. Maybe try Equicars, big LR breaker near Brum, advertise in all the mags and have a website. Clingfilm and Mars bars?

Thanks for the advice,

I'm going to get at work fixing the plywood to the carpet (or vicaversa)
and you can laugh, but i've actually done just that, gone to the wilton shopping village in salisbury (where they make it) and got a lovely off cut in beige. £20 ;) bargain.

Im sure it'll stay beige for about 30 seconds. But still, it's the thought that counts.

Now just got to find that fireplace.

ok, let's see. on a 2002 landy, i've done leather seats in mine. it's a simple task of getting them "re uphosted" in leather if your cushions are doing fine.

i've done a 3 piece carpet in the landy. one large piece for the load floor and one for each side of the wheel arches. all removable since you never know when you need to take them out if they get wet (all lr leak) or you need to carry load. they do dampen the noise from the wheel arches quite a bit.

as i mentioned in my previous posting, i've a 10" sub on the floor. 3 ways 6" in the back and 2 ways 4" under the dash and 1" tweetes on top the dash, not forgetting that 1000W power amp behind the passenger seat.

now toss in 2 cushions, a floor rug in the back (and some sesonal decoration, yes, when it was chirstmas) and you'll have a very homely landy.

original head lining too expensive. so use 6mm black foam rubber on the roof, then use some headlining material to wrap over that and presto!! looks excellent and provides better dampening for the roof against noise (vibration and rain) and heat!!

I fitted some half leather land rover logo cloth seats from a disco 1 in my 110 and they do look smart:) and they only cost me £15 each from a local scrap yard

Try google..horsebox floor lining...summat like that..good stuff, i will try and find linky.

Photos please!
here is some pics I took a while ago, it is being featured in LRO magazine in August edition or maybe september, not sure, but the photo shoot has been done.
I am just working on the door cards at the moment, sourcing some logo cloth to match the seats for the indent handle part of the cards then I am going to trim them in grey leather to match the seats!
