hello all.

i am finally in a position to fulfill a life long dream and buy my first proper landrover, looking at a 90xs. the question i have is this; is it worth paying £500 more for a landrover that has 28k more miles, but is supplied by a main dealer, (Harwoods group). or would i be better off buying from a local garage that specialise in landrovers (brooklyn 4x4). Also why do landrover dealers not do an extended test drive like most, if not all other main big name dealers?

this is a big decision and dont want to be left dissapointed with a long held dream. your input would be most gratefully recieved.

many thanks

£500 cheaper and 30k fewer miles, hmm tricky. Think I'd have to go for that one if it checks out the same.

They don't do extended test drives cos no one in their right mind would buy one after that sort of experience

From whichever has a Defender in the best condition. Mileage and where it comes from matter little, the condition of chassis/engine are of prime importance

'cos they don't want 'em ragged down the local quarries or Pay 'n Play sites.

Condition is paramount, 'specially with regards to rust. When you go to look at one, find someone who knows Landies and let tham have a prod with a screwdriver and small hammer, they should know what to look for .. ;)

That's a hard one thing is its not the dealer your buying it's the car so the car's condition service history is more important than where it came from in some way .

thanks for the advice chaps. much appreciated. has any one had any dealings with either company? (harwoods or brooklyn 4x4). For info both vehicles are around 4 years old and appear in good condition. I think Ill have a chat with the fellas at the dealers see what they can do. I'm thinking that a larger dealer may have bigger margins to play with??

thanks again

Is either dealer offering a comprehensive warranty?? Could be worth a fortune in a very short space of time..;);)

thanks for the help thus far. just wanted to add that i have just got back from an extended test drive in a 90, not the exact model i was after but it gave me an idea of what one is like to live with, very worthwhile. am now going to go ahead and try to purchase one from my local main dealer, who were incidently, massively supportive and helpfull in providing me the oppourtunity to try one out for the day. mazzive kudos to armsterong massey of york. out of interest has any one had any negative experience with this company?

thanks again,
