Well folks, I am ashamed to say I am going to see a main LandRover dealer tomorrow. But I have an excuse.

This is the dealer that sold my Disco 2 to my friend in May 2004, just over three years ago. It was all bought and paid for .... they were SO friendly till the money was paid over, and then they seemed to lose interest. Funny that. "Service ..." I must look up what that actually means in the context of the motor trade.

But this main dealer, who says he prides himself on service, did this when the car was sold:

1. did not stamp the owner's record book with the dealer stamp.
2. did not complete the radio code card
3. did not complete the emergency key entry code card
4. did not record the key number on the card.
5. but did take the metal tag showing the key number off the keyring.

6. did paint their name all over the spare wheel cover (I took it off the day I bought the car - I ain't a free billboard for anyone.

So I phoned them today, as polite as can be, to say I would like them to give me those numbers. Their response?

"Has the car been regularly serviced by us?"

I told the cretin - I mean 'service manager' - that whether the car was ever serviced and by whom was not an issue, nor indeed his business.

He said he wasn't sure they could deal with cars as old as mine!
I said I expected he could if it was for sale on his forcourt and I had the money for it in my pocket.

I told him I would see him in the morning.

I may put a sheep in the back first just to make the point - and anyway, Esmerelda likes a wee trip in the Disco.

More on this saga tomorrow!

My confidence in this main dealer is so high .... that while the car was still well in warranty, when the injector washers caused bother, I took the injectors out myself, and sorted it. Better the devil I know .... than some drug-crazed cretin from down there.

Bluddi spel chekir .....

Must get it sorted so it can cope with "Landuage", the words to do with LandRovers.

Well, God Bless them, two days later they called me back with the numbers, and on 22nd August 2007, they finally stamped the book with their rubber-stamp, and dated it June 2004!

With any luck that will be the last time I have to speak to them.

Funny you mention that! My brother called in at a stealers in a certain north east city where they talk funny and like their ale brown. It was a saturday morning and he went to have a look at TD5 discos only to find all the second hand stuff was locked up round the back so he went into the show room. In there was about five customer glumly sat around like a dentist waiting room as if they had been there all day. Eventually some young lad came and asked if he could help, the conservation went something like this;
Salesman: "Can I help?"
Brother: "I would like to look at a secondhand TD5 Discovery please but they are all locked up round the back"
Salesman: "Oh we have one of those Discoverys in the showroom here"
Brother: "Really? I haven't noticed it"
Sales****wit: "Yes, it's here look at the back"
Brother: "That is a Freelander..........."

FFS.......!

Is there any wonder why he is now the proud owner of a rice burner?
