Can you hear the relay click when it energises?

Have you put a multimeter / bulb tester on the wire to see if you have 12V on it the wire you connected to when you want it?

Scotch blocks are rubbish.

Yeah they look rubbish too. I think that is the weak link. There's no click from the relay. Any ideas on a better way to splice into the high beam?

For all connections and joining into the loom when I did my recent headlamp relay upgrade I soldered all joints. To allow for ease of fitment I utilised a new headlamp bulb connector and made it so that the system could be removed in a few minutes if needed.

Ceramic headlight connectors are best.

That's a great idea I'll nip to Brookwells and grab one.
 
Lights are 50w leds and there's 4 of them. The kit is a 30 amp kit rated for 4 55w lights either led or normal. Twin core is good for up to 27amps so I'm well in the limit or are the specialist 12v solar/ battery camper van electrics fitters wrong? The I structions with the kit tell you to daisy chain the lights together. I wasn't happy with that so I joined them in pairs instead to ease the load and earthed them to the battery.

You should be well equipped to shoot down enemy planes with that lot! :D

I've connected to main beam wire and bulb tested and power is now reaching the relay. The fused wire works too and so do the lights when I directly touch their live wire to the battery so why isn't the relay relaying????

Relay wired wrong or duff
 
Solder and heat shrink or wire in a connector.

200w/12v=17Amps. Use a 25A fuse.
That's the least of my problems the relay won't relay!!! Bulb tested wire from main beam to relay which I've now correctly connected and lights light up on direct battery contact so their wires are good any ideas about the relay?
Fused live to 30, lights live to 87 and main beam feed off to switch relay to 86. Any ideas?

85 to earth?
 
It doesn't say so on the instructions but I'll have a try.

The circuit between 86 & 85 needs to go from positive to ground to complete the circuit which turns the coil into a magnet which throws the switch in the other circuit.

If 85 isn't connected to anything there's no flow of current through the coil.

As BB said, you need to complete the circuit for it to work.

Good luck and try not to burn the Landy to the ground.

And once again LZers know more about these things than product suppliers! That earthing 85 worked. Bolt on Bits instructnd don't mention 85 at all! Maybe it's something they assume you already know. Thanks gents once again I now have excessive lighting. Next step is to add an on off switch.
