after numerous phonecalls to dougdotcom (top fella and very helpful even to a complete numpty!!) i still have a problem with main beam not coming on. i changed out the top board of the becm (under supervision of dougdotcom) i have changed the stalk, i have traced the earths from light switch and headlamps, and still main beam won't come on:confused: whats happening is dip comes on and when you pull the stalk back for main all that happens is it flashes the lights. help!!!!
 
I'm probably an even bigger numpty than you when it comes to these vehicles but it sounds like a relay to me??

If the main beam flashes, that more or less proves the wiring to the lights etc. A quick pull on the stalk produces a flash a longer pull/more movement turns on the main beam. I would guess that the BECM is not seeing the second part of the signal or the logic in the BECM is not responding to the signal. Really needs the diagnostics, or trace the appropriate wire from the stalk to the BECM and meter the signal at the BECM. You need to look at the wiring in RAVE.
 
so the problem continues.... 2 stalks and 2 different becm power boards and it still wont put main beam on? its got power in to the becm main beam bit but not out of it?
 
Who decided to swap over the power boards in the becm?

Sounds like people are guessing.

If it's not a relay, or the stalk, then the switching logics needs checking out, & possibly a logic board repair.

The becm needs to be taken apart in an full anti-static area, & should never be investigated on or by the vehicle, as it's like signing it's death warrent.

However, if you get stuck, & you're certain it's the becm, send it to me, & i'll sort it out for you.
 
power boards were swapped under instruction of dougdotcom. its all pointing back to the logic board, and there is no-one in ireland that can do anything with them since irishrover retired himself. i'll pm you the rest!

Put simply, the Logic Board is like a woman.....does all the thinking and gives the orders, the Power Board is like a fella.....does all the work !!!!! :hysterically_laughi

Now now Rick... he was not for sending the Becm to anyone as its MOT was due and had axcess to a 2nd Becm, Even i calnt charge fuel to there, if i had the Becm it would be working in no time. But i dont like swiming the Irish sea. :D:amen:

With all the "Floaters" discharged into the Irish Sea from the Irish sewage systems, I wouldn't fancy swimming in it either !!!
 
I remember actually seeing the opposite in a thread here. That the person could flash his mains if the lights were off such as during the day but if the dips were on he couldn't just flash his mains as needed, it would just switch to main and stay unless he pulled it again. At that pointed I chimed in and said it was the same in mine, then a load of others also said yes, them too and it was left at that, a RR quirk like the shire horse trapped under the dash who starts to walk on cobbles everytime you indicate!

I've got that as well. It's annoying when it happens but I've never bothered looking in to it. Any of the BECM wizards got any ideas? Might it be one of those things, like suddenly losing the indicator flash when I use the remote, that could be a BECM setting?

According to my owners manual, when the dipped headlights are on, a slight pull on the stalk will flash the main beam, a full pull switches to main beam. Trouble is there is no feel to the movement, I can flash the main beam when stationary if I concentrate, but it's difficult on the move. Just another example of crap LR design:(

So at this Range Rover meet this weekend I'll go round pulling everybodys' stalks and see if any of them have any feeling.

According to a post earlier this morning the new models have auto full beam so you don't need to touch the stalk anymore. Flashing headlights is sooo last year:rolleyes:

Wow, that's clever a car that knows when to flash the headlights as a signal, a thinking Range rover:rolleyes:
Auto full beam just dips when oncoming traffic is detected and reverts to main beam when there is no oncoming traffic. It's a pain in the arse as there are times when main beam is not wanted like in certain types of fog when dip gives better visibility.
