if yer checked bulbs . . .check fuse fer thet circuit. . .if thets ok check fer poor earths at yer rear . . . .after thet it gits a bit deep but i can run yer through it. . . .:)

if that dusn't work, do wot i did, ditch the freelander and get a defender. You know you want one really:D

If your HIGH LEVEL brake light is working the problem could be due to corrosion caused by water ingress at the connectors behind lamps. Use a test lamp with someone pressing pedal if all else fails.

Thanks alot everybody for your advice, got problem sorted.

Me mate had a tinker, Poor connection but working now.

One more little niggle, though gonna post a new thread about it so more people will read it.

Cheers again!!

:)

Hi Nod

Don't suppose your mate can remember where the dodgy connection was? I just had exactly the same problem with both brake lights stopping working but high level one OK and I'm hoping it's something simple. :(

Tell him I'll buy him a pint!

Cheers!

If you haven't fixed your brake lights yet this may help.
All brake lights come from a yellow header joint C291,( Illustrated in Electrical Library Manual ) located behind right/hand rear trim panel close to seat belt reel above R/H rear shock absorber mounting. If 1 light is working ( obviously fuse is ok, ) you should be able to trace circuit between this connector and the connectors to lamps, ( hope you have checked for corrosion at lamp connectors, as they are exposed to salt etc. I don't know if Elect Library is available on the RAVE disc, if so you can see the connector photo location for yourself.
