Trying to work out if my maf sensor needs replaced but can't find a way to check, it's been a little hard on fuel and there is a tiny amount of black smoke in exhaust fumes, I did try unplugging it and running it round the block but I couldn't notice any difference in the way the motor ran? Is this normal? Any help apriciated

Don't you usually get eratic idle if maf sensor is playing up? You can actually buy maf sensor cleaner in a spray can ,might be worth a shot for under a tenner ?

Hiya, when I had maf sensor problem on my 90 td5 I disconnected it and ran it without the difference was quite noticeable , ie more power and more responsonsive so I put a new one on which did the trick ,other option is if you know someone with the same landy borrow there maf sensor for half an hour and see if any difference:)

Diesel or petrol?

It's 2.0 td4 mate
If it runs more or less the same with the MAF off, may be worth trying another or better still get it on diagnostics.
However, lots of things could cause excess fuel consumption from the engine running cold to binding brakes. As it has a MAF, I assume it has electronic control, so a duff temperature sensor could cause the problem.

Thank you for the info, where about is the temp sensor?
