Hi all.
Over the last year or so I've notice my 2001 disco TD5 has been getting a bit sluggish on pull away, so I unpluged the mass airflow sensor and was supprised how much more power I had throughout the range.
My question is, what disadvantages is there by leaving it unpluged before buying a brand new sensor from the main stealers.

Leaving it unplugged simply puts the ECU into a "default" fuelling map, so you will basically be a little less economical, probably about 1-2 MPG

Thanks urban panzer,
I might as well leave it unplugged.

It will affect performance in terms of climbing long hills and towing, as well.

But you can get a new non-LR one off Ebay for about £30. I've got one in mine and it works fine.

As Big lad said. Ebay! is the place my man. The seller you need is
Glowplugman1. I paid £35 for mine and fitted in May last year.
Feb. 2011 still going strong.

Are these not just a resistor? get some cleaning buds and alcohol you will be surprised how dirty they are and so reduces the sensitivity of them giving the ecu crap readings.

There is no harm in cleaning the wire as part of routine servicing, but it has never helped me fix a troublesome one on any car. I would get the Isopropyl Alcohol Aerosol from somewhere like Maplins - Worth a shot
