Do not forget,
200 tdi used to snap cranks or have the keyways rattle about wrecking the crank, then lose oil pressure due to shagged cam bearings.
300tdi used to chuck its cambelt off.
td5 used to lose its oil pump bolt and wreck the motor.
All the above can do serious miles, not something that can be said about the 2.7 or the 3.0!

On the d3 forum a while ago there was a guy from one of the big South Africa LR clubs and they are convinced the cranks get snapped by harmonics like you say. Things like bad pulleys/dampers or out of balance TCs or flex plates. The SA guys also swear by slick50 style treatments in the tdv6 to help with the low pressure on startup.

Another theory banded about on the 3.0 is it is an injector issue, ie one cylinder is doing more than its fair share of the work.
2.7 you can measure injector balance, but not on the 3.0.
I reckon common rail injectors in cars are good for 100k if you are lucky.

hi mate

u saying that I once saw on a video regarding injectors where the engine was running rough and they reset the crank sensor

must confess not sure if they replaced injectors as well

What year did development start?

Read rumours it was under way before the d2 was released and that the d2 should have looked like it.

If so it would have most likely been started with an m57 to start with.
