Hi guys n gals. Just arrived home. Kids safely in bed and Drover is spending his time on a pretty busy road under a street light... I know that's not ideal but I saw nearly a dozen police cars up and down the road in our time sat in car park.

Going to ring bank in morning about upgrading our old paid account to a slightly more expensive one that offers uk wide recovery rather than the miserly 10 miles we're offered at the moment.

I now have some thinking to do when Drover gets home and diagnosed - long term resto project or 2 into 1 with another disco???

Dipped the oil before we left and it was as it should be ... Black. No white smoke on the start up. Temp Guage bang on normal. Just a git to start and struggles to hold decent revs then cuts.

Could it be a bastid airlock from hell or is it the dreaded HGF or some random curse that seems to strike whenever Drover enters England??? I guess time will tell.

Thank you to my dear LZ friends for your help, suggestions and support during this evening. You are bloody legends! ;)

bit suspicious its struggling to start ,is it cranking normally?

Drover is home. Smooth trip on shiny noo wagon. Breakdown lads suggested might be worth checking fuel lift pump etc first, in order of cheapness n access.

So it might be pretty painless!

next time we should travel in convoys if possible, back up in numbers, brilliant news its home, you can tell if the lift pumps gone by lifting the lever and check if theres a bit of resistance,i would crank it see if diesel to the injectors first,if its getting fuel and not starting look at compression or timing, compression would be suspect as you lost water

I agree, I did think fuel starvation but the water loss is a worry. Could be coincidental

No need for you to drag over here fella. My mate is a Landy nut who's moved back into his first love..mgbs.

Will be on it all next week as it's half term.

Except for the coolant loss it sounds as though you got the same problem as I did. It was the lift pump, My disco just cut out on the way to work. Wouldn't hold the revs and would drive for a minute then stop.

Gonna toddle down to Bearmach's this afty and flex the plastic fantastic on a noo lift pump. Already have fuel filter and sedimenter in me big box o' bits. So might as well freshen those up at the same time!!

Also gonna give all the coolant hoses a thorough going over, but not expecting anything less than no problems with them as all new replacements in last year. Maybe a jubilee clip has loosened or let go somewhere - we'll see - probably go through those at the same time and replace with new as some were the old ones from old pipes on the new pipes as I didn't have right sizes in big box!

Ponty boy, have you sorted it out yet ? I've got a spare lift pump if you need it , disco 300tdi. I'm only up the road (Aberdare).

Didn't get to bearmach as change of plan in work! Probably gonna sort it over the weekend. Thomo, cheers for the offer but no need. Father in law is in trade and main dealer for Delphi... so it'll be a Delphi pump at the right price.

It's the lift pump. But going to take the oppo to change the rad, fuel filter and give the intercooler a clean out at the same time that we do the lift pump. Also going to splash a bit of paint around the bits under the rad area.
