I got the dreaded M+S lamp problems and the car goes into gear 3 (limback mode or what is it called??)
After some googling it seems to be 5 - 10 different causes. Could you please help me narrow it down to a smaller list?

- The battery is fresh and fully charged.
- It started off purely as a humid weather problem. Only problems in the morning and damp days.
- Now it seems to be 50% of the starts.
- I had the problem for a year. In the start it worked with restarting the car, but that doesn't work now. It has been considerable worse.
- The car is parked outside. It seemed to have been better when i put a dryer in the car overnight.

I had this, saw a suggestion for turning ignition on, engine off go between P and 1 quickly and fairly vigorously a few times and viola, mine has been fine since. He says crossing his fingers.

Look at the thread d2 auto gearbox fault 2nd October 2018 as the posts may help you understand any fault codes you may find when you have them read.
As a matter of interest what is the state of the lights by the gear selector and the gear display in the instrument pack when the fault occurs.

I was at the workshop multiple times during spring but they couldn't replicate the problem at get any fault codes. Now it shouldn't be any problems to replicate the problem, as it's 50 % of the starts.

It's blinking, both at the gear selector and at the instrument pack.

I would check that your workshop is using test book, nanocom or hawkeye fault code reader as flashing m&s lights should log a fault code in electronic automatic transmission ecu so fault does not need to be present to be read, d2 td5 is not obd 2 compliant using landowners own system so other fault readers may not work.

Plug it in and get the codes read. Could be moisture or corrosion in the switch, changed wiring above gearbox, dirty connection at engine ECU, selector could be miss aligned.

These are just a few of the possibilities.

OK didn't know that thanks! Will do that.

Are there any list somewhere, what can cause limp home mode?
Yes, in RAVE - Workshop manual - Automatic gearbox description but it's a table where all the causes are together with the specific fault code so as long as you dont know the code the list is useless and once you know the code and post it here you-ll get the answer too ;)

anyway if you think that the list is for any help just like that see attachments:

Add your location to your profile so we can see where you are. Some of us have diagnostic units, I have a nanocom for example, and are willing to help for beer tokens however if we don’t know where you are then that doesn’t help you.

I am in Sweden unfortunatley ... But thanks anyway. I think i have located a diagnostic unit now.

Don't know if you've fixed the problem but my solution which has worked on 2 occasions is to check and clean the red terminal block of oil that somehow got into the ECU unit behind the battery. the oil seems to short circuit the pins causing a number of wayward electrical issues and warning lights,

As above. Treat the injector loom as a service item and change it annually if possible. They aren’t much to buy and there isn’t a msssive amount of work involved to change it
