was lucky with my front doors when we removed the paint they looked like this

how bads the door?..mine was like this and we repaired it
Yeah ma back door was worse than that, i snapped a peace today when i was squaring the back away. Plus the outer skin is well on its way. I,m lucky as in my place of work we have some metal benders, they took a look to see if they thought it was worth repairing...answer was nah replace it.
As for the side doors the drivers is not to bad just needs the bottom cross member replacing...the passenger door i,m not to sure about , it just seems flimsy compared tothe drivers ... thinking it may be a OM replacement , feels cheap
....either that or i,m a heavy handed oaf:5bsmash:

Well one of the lads i work wea has come up trumps, second hand door with heated window fur 100 quid, needs some work but far less than the door i,m running wea. Will post some picks monday when i,m back in work...just need to sort out the bubbling on the outer skin!
Need to find something that will keep the frame from the skin touching!
But first job the day is headlights conversion to halogen and repalcing the indicator stock. Then new clutch slave and master cylinder the morrow.
Been reading up on painting with rollers, has anybody tried this method wea good results?......this will be more of an easter job once i,ve sorted out the body work!

We paint all our Removals Trucks with rollers and Leyland paint it lasts for about 4 years before the Sun matts it then we just roller them again we paint a whole 7.5ton truck for £30! works for us!
Without trying to sound like a novice (which i am) Why are these machines so prone to rot? Is it due to the life most of them lead of going into water and covering the chassis etc OR is it just poor steel and bad design? I did wonder why on my 1992 Defender how open the front footwells are to being splashed by everything the front wheels can throw at them, yet made of such thin steel with little sign of a splash guard etc

Steel rusts no matter what grade, and where the body is alli and bulkhead is steel where the two metals come into contact they oxidise

In my younger naughter days whilst in germany i painted a fair few heavy wagons and armoured vehicles with brushes and rollers. Sometimes the result was quite good depending on how much effort was used.
I,m leaning towards hand painting next easter, Roof first see how good my efforts are. .......the watery metallic blue is doing my head in.

we use the 300tdi 90/110s at work and to be fair they dont rust as much as civillian defenders, i do know the military chassis are of a different spec. ....But as mentioned by sible88 says put the two metals together and they react!
