I've replaced the XYZ switch a few years ago, but now getting M&S lights flashing, and D in LCD flashing - but not going into limp and starts fine. Mainly happens when I've shifted (slowly) from R to D. It is a P0705 fault.

I had extended the AC drain tube previously but saw today that has failed and water is dripping onto the wiring loom next to the switch. Plan to sort out the drain hose issue tomorrow - but does this sound like the switch itself may need replacing/refurbing or could the water be the issue? Or perhaps chafing in the loom? Will check for that tomorrow too.

Here is the tube we had fitted in the drain hole previously, which is now leaking. Second photo shows the water sitting on the loom wiring..

Think both are black. M&S lights on pretty constantly now and reappear after every reset. Ordered a refurbished XZY switch. Seems to be clunking more than usual going into reverse - could that be linked to switch issue?

If one of them is blue/black they are for the diff-lock switch. The switch can be the cause of code 0705 and M+S warnings not other mechanical issues

When the M&S lights are on, the oil pressure in the ‘box is maximum and this does cause quite a clonk going into reverse.

Just a thought, before starting, move the gear lever from P to 1 a few times. This may “clean” the switch contacts. Worked on mine when it had the M&S P0705 habit.

Thank you both - appreciable the guidance. Will try that before replacing switch and will stop fretting about the clunk!!

I didnt think about that but seems that you are spot on , confirmed by the fault description too just that this default should go together with limp mode as well.... normally

Hi all - I changed the XYZ switch today - got one refurbished from Discovery 2 spares - and now the car won’t even turn over. No faults showing via Nanocom. Any ideas?

Might not be related, check the spade connector on the starter solenoid to not be loosen.... remove the starter relay and bridge the perpendicular cavities with a wire see if it cranks then

Just adjusted it further as P wasn’t showing on the dash or via red light next to selector. Once that was done, started perfectly! Thank you for your guidance.

You should have said that from the beginning.... that's why the XYZ is called "starter inhibitor switch" too cos if the BCU doesnt get the park input it disables the sterter relay... anyway, i'm glad you sorted it
