Hi all,
I’m fairly new to discovery ownership, and have been working through a few problems with warning lights.
I’ve changed instrument cluster for the facelift dials, and have got the M and s lights flashing. (Along with the 3 amigos, srs, and hdc, it’s like a bloomin Christmas tree)
I’ve read loads of threads on this, but my problem is I’ve a manual, so don’t have the auto box to go wrong...? So why do I get them flashing??
I’m trying to get a nanocom so I can investigate a few things further, but no luck so far.
Would I be able to ‘uncode’ them with a nanocom?
Thanks
James

Yes, the Nanocom can be used to reset the instrument cluster from an automatic to a manual type.
Regarding the other fault indications, you're just going to have to dig a bit. They might be true or they might be false readings.

Thanks, that’s good news!
The others - I think I’ve sorted the srs - a broken wire under the drivers seat and a replaced seatbelt pretensioner should have fixed it, and I’ll do more investigating with the 3 amigos!

The IC is not programmable, the settings are through the BCU so no matter from which type of vehicle was removed it should work exactly like the old one as long as it's not faulty, the only thing which is it's own is the stored odometer value

In almost all cases of the 3 amigos a code reader will be required to diagnose the fault condition(s) existing. Even if you know where the trouble lies, you will still need a code reader to clear any logged historic faults.

There is a setting in the system where the instrument cluster can be set for manual or automatic. I have done it for one member some time ago, he was suffering exactly the same problem, flashing M&S lights on a replacement cluster removed from an auto and fitted on his manual vehicle.

So it’s not changeable from auto to manual?
I don’t have the s and m lights on on the old one, they don’t even light on test when you first put the key in...

Great!

if that's the case i stand corrected.

At the risk of sounding like I'm trying to rub it in, this is from the Nanocom user's manual for the Valeo BCU on the Disco 2:-

That's why i was convinced that once the BCU was set to manual in that Instrument pack menu it will not swap to auto just by changing the IP hence my reply based on logic but i didnt do that myself so i'll not contest what you said about the setting

Thanks for being so clear with this, it’s actually helped with another issue too - the sls is inoperative as it’s been converted to coils in a previously life, so this will get rid of those warnings too,
Now off to find a nanocom!
