Is there a knack to refitting now shoes with new springs? I'm finding this near impossible!
Send photo!I did the fronts Easter weekend. Haynes suggested this:
1) Fit the retaining spring while the shoe is still loose
2) Fit the cylinder end of the shoe (i.e. top on the front facing shoe, bottom on the rear facing one)
3) Where the backing plate and the tang that goes into the non-cylinder end meet, place a large flat bladed screwdriver / chisel in the corner.
4) Push really, really hard
The tang should jump over the side of the groove that hold it and jump into place. Even though this way is counter intuitive as it looks as if moving the cylinder end would give more leverage - I found this way quite straight forward and went in a lot easier than I thought. So much easier in fact I slipped and whacked my face on the hub. I still have a black eye.![]()
