Hi right pump fitted and have now lost the juddering at low speeds and light throttle have also lost the engine stall when putting in gear so it has solved 75% of my problems and it has cured mpg at present it is 24mpg around town have only done 30 miles so will see how it goes and report back

The only downside is now that she struggles to pull away I dnt these are know to be crap inder 2k but it didn't do it before maybe that y I had low mpg because it flew threw the rpm range at higher speeds say 50-80 it goes like stink like it used to in the lower rpm have I got the pump wrong? I'm going to leave as it is and will report back in a few days when she has a few more miles under her belt but it is looking good

Sounds about right for an unchipped diesel. It went better before I would assume because it was over fueling, more fuel = bigger bang. If it's an auto the answer is just to stamp on the go peddle a bit harder:eek: as I found when I removed the powerbox from mine:eek::eek:

Yes I see your point more fuel is more go but god I can walk quicker haha it is a auto the cruise control seems odd now say set at 50 and it drops to 40-45 it drops two gears to get back to 50 even on the slightest hill it seems to lag best I get a remap next then with freeflowing exhaust and larger intercooler

If I'm right moving the fip left and right on.the elongated holes does this advance and retard the timing like a petrol dizzy if so can I turn it to get the desired settings or would this cause damage to new pump and engine?

Pump timing is done to + - one thousandth of an inch with a DTI. Turning the pump on the slots and hoping to get it right is dreaming. Thought you said you were in the trade?

I am but thia is old skol all new fip r just bolt on jobs the electrics control the lot doesn't need timing etc u must remember they dnt train us young tech like the old tech everything is now just a throw away world it isn't cheap enogh to repair it cheaper for a new part and get it fitted how many people do you know that replaces brushes etc in an alternator or recon a starter motor

The days are long gone of repair new components are just fitted

True i suppose but sad. Lucas really threw **** at the fan when they started with their B90 exchange units. Pump timing is critical get or borrow the tools and follow the instructions in RAVE. You need an adaptor, DTI and a crank locking pin. Oh yeah, and a big socket and bar to turn the engine with. As for your question i do.:):):)

Wammers I have used a dti and crank pin and camshaft locking tools to do the job it just doesn't feel right to be but it must b right as it is running smooth just dog slow and very un responsive but it might be me

the diesel really is as slow as a glacier....keeps taking me by surprise....

We have a '57 Puma Defender and a 2011 Discovery SDV6 at work and they rocket ships in comparison....

A post I read on here was...'is the P38 really that slow??' the reply was '...No, it's slower...'

Ok is ok on turbo? You don't use the cam tool for timing pump only for replacing camshaft.

Sounds just like mine with the powerbox removed:( slight motorway inclines and it's down one or two gears to maintain speed. A re-map will eat your gearbox as will a powerbox. I can sell you my powerbox, I won't be putting it back. I'll put up with less performance in exchange for gearbox reliability:)

Datatek pm me a price for it and we can see what we can do what did it do to your gearbox mine is a 97dse non egr many thanks

Don't think Datas PSI will be any good on yours Matt. Keiths is a EGR 2000 i think.

Just an update fellas, had the car booked in for complete diagnostics as it had gone from bad to worse, but 3 days before the day it decided enough was enough and it completely locked me out whilst i was trying to get home from work, to make matters worse the mechanics of door lock also failed, so flat bed taxi was ordered for ride home.
Landy Man of St. Helens was the place for diagnostics. Injection pump was the suspected culprit, so recommended a Bosch injection specialist in Burscough Lancashire. further diagnostics confirmed the pump at fault.
Full pump recondition, inc pot, diagnostics and labour total charge £1030.40
Purrs like a kitten, just wonder WHAT NEXT
Thanks for help with post, Cheers guys
