You could easily clean the gauze pick-up area on the pump and replace the internal fuel filter.
The pump itself is not to bad to get at. It's beneath a circular cover under the rear seat behind the driver. Disconnect the battery, lift seat, have rags on hand to mop up petrol spillage..., Disconnect wiring and fuel line. Undo the ring-like top retainer [I used a large flat bladed screwdriver and tapped it around with a light hammer]. The pump will be stiff to pull up due to the top rubber seal, but it will come up. There is a YouTube video on how to replace the fuel filter too.
