Good Morning. I have a 1985 110 CSW, 3.5 V8, LT95 with a Fairey Overdrive.

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on Fairey Overdrives and I am now thoroughly confused. A quick google search or a search of these forums have plenty of information about Fairey O/Ds fitted to Series Land Rovers but they all seem to differ slightly from mine. So here goes:

1. There is mention about a filler plug and dipstick on the Fairey Overdrives. I have removed my seatbox and checked the top of the O/D and can find no such plug. Am I missing something?

2. Some of the posts talk about the O/D sharing oil with the T/case and some of them say that the O/D has its own oil supply. Is the O/D meant to share its oil with the T/case (intentionally - I've seen plenty of posts where this happens unintentionally due to a blown seal)?

3. I've also seen where someone says to fill the O/D with EP90, but my gearbox and t/case take 20W50.

Thanks for any help you can provide me.

Yes, there is a lot of conflicting info out there.
You are right, the lt95 OD is different to series.

The OD shares its oil with the TC.
The TC throws it up into the OD "oil bath", which then overflows back into the TC.
So as long as there is oil in the TC, then the OD has oil in it, and it's the right level - you only need to check the TC oil level.

There is a drain plug on the OD oil bath, so you can drain it all out properly.
Also a fill plug, so you can fill the OD up first. I used to fill the TC from the OD.
But fill slowly, as it takes a little time to drain down.

Yes - I seem to remember that they use 20w50.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. The information you provided was just what I was after. Much appreciated.
