Evening all, I thought I might share this with you but you can fit a defender lt77s gearbox into a series 3 swb with out butchering your chassis you will need access to a welder and some basic fabrication skills and lathe and basic workshop accessories, I haven't finished it yet due to lack of time with college , but I have the gear box mounted and rear drive shaft finished currently running in diff lock , i have not sorted the front prob but i have designed the way im going to do it with out scalloping the main cross member but I will try and upload a few pictures will get more over the weekend but I'm happy to answer any questions ! Just to clarify this isn't a concourse landrover or fitting this is just to get the job done some may say its a Bodge ! But I'm not making you do this to your Landy at all so don't complain ! :D pictures to come now if I can !

you will go through plenty of front diffs and halfshalfs and without moving the middle cross-member you will have to take gearbox out to service handbrake

As for the front drive terrain people say it will explode and all mannor off terrible things will happen i have a friend who's got a lwb series 2 and has done over 190 thousand miles with a 300tdi and r380 and has no problems and his is a daily driver , as for the handbrake maintance I have a drop out gear box cross member so when undone drops the gear box down enough and allows for hand brake maintance without breaking the engine from gearbox

i moved the crossmember in mine but i do #### the front end up diffs and stuff quite often

If you fit the transfers case of the r380 and strip the diff internals out it will give you the same effect as the original transferee case which is my next option !

you would need to weld rear sun gear in place and enable front gear to still support front output shaft and stay in place or use the diff kit in the disco/defender free wheel hub kit, the lt230 diff is the same type in all lt230s

can you do that to the transfer case on and lt77?

Just an almighty bodge doing it that way, prop shaft should ideally be at least 290mm talking to the people that are making my custom one up and shouldn't both ends be aligned with each other?

hi , good spotting prop yokes should be

Good to hear other than the skint bit then hopefully business will pick up soon! :) just as slow here tbh

Yeah exams sorted so now some fabrication jobs over summer and time to sort the series out properly as its coming back to mine

Why should the prob be 290mm long I have done this conversion with a Motorsport engineer at college and he said it doesn't matter , the longer the prob the harder it would have been to balance , however this is my Landy and it drive lovely getting 45mpg can cruise at 55/60 with out my ears bleeding , and all it's cost me was the gear box and some free time at college to fit it much better than paying for some one to do it for me , also I can use it as credit to my course .

At 290mm you get enough travel in the slide and it reduces vibrations, I highly doubt you're getting 45mpg too!
That 290mm value isn't plucked out of thin air either thats taken from Driveline Morcambe who are making my props up

It may have been free but you've still not aligned the yokes as has been spotted, no doubt you're satisfied with the build though and credit where credit is due for trying to make it work but IMO its a poor bodge turning the props down to fit

how come this expert didnt know how to align prop? the angle of yokes gets greater the shorter you go so giving less axle movement:)

Poor bodge it may be but when we shorted the drive shaft we calculated the prop length at full articulation and full compression so there fine for the job at hand I, sure your conversion will be better as you have money to spend but I don't ,im just ,making the most of what I've got and why can't I get 45mpg I have free wheeling hubs I'm running a 200tdi disco engine with a 300tdi fuel pump and injectors

you must have a 300tdi head then ?
