Hi have just taken the plate of the back of the transfer box and oil was starting to pour out so I just stuck it right back on . I am assuming this means that the box has been reconditioned and it has the modified gear in the transfer box. I not driven the car it's getting a 200 tdi which I had in the garage but I am busy building a large extension nearly finished . So I hope that it's a good one as oils at the back of the PTO plate is this a good indicator?

Thank in advance

Oil would not be that high in a transfer box, the filler/level plug is much lower. Good indicator NO.

Well it started to pour out. I thought that that why the boxes failed no oil back there?

Now I am confused

I just looked the fill level plug is level with bottom of the plate I removed so oil is at that high that's why it poured out. The cars on a slight slope

Try it again on the flat, as it doesn't take much of an angle to give the impression that there is too much/too little oil in the sump.

It is easy enough to pull the input transfer gear and check the splines and if gear is cross drilled type.
