Well I have now confirmed that my gearbox lt77 suffex f needs a rebuilt main shaft worn.i been fixing car for about 30 years but never have I rebuilt a gbox. I would like some recommendations as to what puller to get to pull off the collar and best place to source the main shaft.

Many thanks

its not just collar its the 5th gear synchro hub and lay shaft 5th gear need pulling off ,theres a bearing race ukc8l in the input shaft needs pulling out too, as well as the bearings from the shafts,ftc1446 in event you cant get a ftc1446g id buy a britpart one

Thanks I know I need to pull those off thanks for the part numbers . Any ideas re the best puller to get?

cant help you with that as i use the special tools designed for that box,but you will need suitable sized bearing seperators

Do you have a copy of the attached?

I recently rebuilt my lt77 and it was an absolute mare using normal bearing pullers ended up shearing part of the pullers and had to resort to using 12mm screwed bar. It can be done but if i was to do another rebuild then i'd probably but all the correct Land Rover special tool but then that would send the cost of the rebuild through the roof and be cheaper just getting a rebuilt box from Ashcrofts.

The pullers i used where Amazon product

Thanks seadog for the files. I watch all the videos from Mike at Britannia restorations on YouTube full strip down ect very useful. God buying all the correct tools better just sending to ash crofts. I do everthing myself. I figured out how to remove the collar just weld a bit off pip onto the collar and just pull off with standard pullers and then replace . I think I can do it with alot of swearing. Heres hoping. Just phoned Ashcroft's £570 inc vat and then I got to get it to then another £50 stuff that .I am rebuilding it

I'm the same when it comes to doing all the work myself that's why I rebuilt my gearbox it is possible just not easy lol I destroyed my 5th gear syncro hub because I didn't have right tool. In the end when i was finished and added up all the receipts I wasn't far off the Ashcroft price inc delivery to Scotland. I used Mike's videos on Youtube along with a hard copy of the gearbox manuals his videos are very good but no doubt you will have noticed he has mostly the correct LR tools. Good Luck ;)
