a short LT230 ?? i've never heard of one, pictures ?? dimensions ??

or are you getting mixed up with the Disco LT77 and early 90/110 LT77 main gearbox ??

I know the difference between an lt77 and lt230......believe me there is a short lt230 just like there's a short r380. It's just not a LR part number

i wasn't being funny, i know you know there's two different length LT77 and R380 gearboxes

it was that i've never heard of a different size LT230, just that there's at least two different ratios

i think there is a rare one that is only part time 4x4 but that one is apparently like rocking horse droppings so i didn't see the point in mentioning it

I've seen guys different output flange castings shorter ones but that was special jobbies

i think it may have to be moved forward so the rear prop shaft will fit in, or the gearbox mounts will fit on the existing gearbox cross member,
i think that changing stuff on a landrover if you are new to landrovers and have not much experience, it can be very hard to do, modding a landrover drivetrain would be at a skill level of experienced, i myself wouldn't bother changing stuff around, even through i have owned and working on mine for 11 years now i wouldn't even think to change the drivetrain componets as it would give me a very large headache and take many hours as dont do that sort of thing daily or do that as a job.

i think keep it standard mate, then when it breaks see about fixing it or replacing it, but wanting to change boxes and engines over makes me think someone wants big power or reliability, a old man that was a cane train driver or a engineer told me the best way to make a landrover gear-train reliable is fit a torque converter, im not sure where though and he said you'd have a hard time breaking stuff then. he also told me they would fit them to the tractors that would pull the full bins into the sugar mill and it would relieve some of the stress on your final driver and basically would make your landrover a auto though that it had the original manual transmission in it, and you could get away with-out using the clutch.
i know it sounds strange but i believe what he is saying is true as he was not young and he had old time engines and was very skilled.
