Right back to the drawing board with this thing.

Purchased a refurbished gearbox earlier this year, within 300 miles you were struggling to go from 1st to 2nd. Place I got it from was amazing and swapped it for a new rebuilt unit with no problems, says it is the first one he has had returned in 20 years. Typical just my luck I thought.

Fitted the replacement unit and after 2 days (25 miles) and I am again struggling to get 2nd gear, and also 5th gear as well as 5th gear whining its head off. Spoken to the guy again tonight and he is at a loss. He said when he rest ripped the box I took back the baulk rings had lost all the coating from them so thought it could be an oil issue but I have been using ATF 2 which is what I believe should be in it.

I am at a loss, I really don't want to have to remove the box again but suspect this is what I am going to end up doing, the guy I had the boxes from has no idea what has gone wrong but has suggested using a cheaper mineral ATF oil in there.

It is now a suffix H in there, was a suffix G if that makes any difference.

This thing will be the death of me and my bank balance and the amount of time I am spending possibly my marriage.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

it needs to come to bits again,if he hasnt had one back in 20 years he either doesnt do many or extremely lucky, with the original box its quite possible to get and fit very poor baulk rings and you cant allways tell

Thank you James, not what I wanted to hear but what I was expecting.
