This might qualify as the most obscure question on LZ

But here it is

i have the transfer box drain plug with the magnet in it's nose - a while ago while undoing the offending bolt it broke

so I have the broken bit still in its place of normal residence and it isn't leaking

i am planning on taking the sump off and it might be possible to get my grubby little fingers on the head and screw it all the way out

that's first prize - with my run of luck lately it's doubtful

so if someone has an lt230 out
and the sump is off
and my particular magnetic bolt is to hand
and that one in a thousand person is feeling kind

how much of the tapered nose is sticking out and maybe a picture or two

This is what I would do.
(many variations on basically the same thing, ignore the references to rust. )

google did find me a thread on i think the ausie forum and that person wasn't able to drill it out as the magnet was too hard to drill into

it's all aluminium around the bolt and that will just melt - i think

I'm afraid this will not work but don't panic, happened to me too, i managed to drill in it enough to use a nr 4 extractor from this kind of set https://www.drillfix.co.uk/ProductG...ed-abrasives/screw-extractor-set-range-3-22mm , a friend of mine wasnt so lucky so he drilled it out completely and used a M12 x 1,5 rivnut which even if it seems an ugly botch it works and much cheaper than buying a new sump

Which is why you protect the aluminium with the washer to spread the heat.

We had to do similar on the wife's Pluriel when the engine sump plug just wouldn't hold. Drill it out a bit recut a bigger thread then put a bigger sump plug in. It looks as if it was originally there.
