Hi there! Good afternoon.

Currently doing a 1.4 LT230 rebuild. Currently dismantling the front housing and saw that its slightly pitted. When adding the oil seal, would it be fine to a little gasket sealer to help with the pitting or is this a bad idea?

Thanks in advance.

Just been cleaning up and putting fresh gaskets in a low miles LT230.
Where is the pitting? Pic would help.
But if this is around the outside of the seal where it sits in housing should not matter as the rubber outer of seal will bed into the area. However a smear of RTV silicon is also fine.
Most important is that the area of the drive flange that contacts seal is smooth/good. If not new flange.

Yes, I generally smear the outside of seals like that with gasket sealer. It's helpful I think.
