Saw on FB last night that the LRO silver Defender 110 with LRO signwriting has been a victim of theft. It’s had it’s LED lights, light bar, bumper and some other parts stolen whilst parked in a car park. They also broke in, presumably to try and get the doors off but the security hinges did their bit.

The thieves also smashed the rear window, then one of the sides to gain access, rifling through the interior. These thieves seem to swagger around the country taking what they want.

Can’t suggest a solution. Would love to know where all these doors bonnets and parts disappear to.

l tried online and couldn’t find any for sale anywhere so they must be either going abroad or being fitted to vehicles by thieves.

Maybe they buy the stripped vehicles from auction and rebuild them with stolen parts lol
 
Just searched on ebay for 'defender doors' and a big list appeared. Ticked the box for 'used' and there's 258 results. Over 30 are doors.
 
No way, l didn’t find any, except for scabby old ones and brand new ones needing fitting up and painting
 
I don’t do FB. Did it say where it was parked and for how long. Any CCTV etc?
Would be nice to put another one there as a sting op, and then sit on it and wait to see if the thieving b.....ds do come back.
On what joy that would bring
 
Can any help by telling me what the anti theft bolts that were on doors are. As I have just had doors stolen looking to sort extra security once she is back from being repaired

Cheap fix is to hammer some tight fitting ball bearings into allen key headed bolts, then sikaflex around the bolt head and smooth it over to match the hinge body.

In reality I am looking for a better solution. Security hinges or security bolts.

Problem with security bolts is, if there is a tool to fasten them, then that same tool can be used to undo them.

Used to look after prisoner vans years ago, lots of weird security fasteners, we always got them out with standard tools.

We were told by police our vehicle was being targeted to be stolen and at least the extra security stopped that happening.
Need to slow them down, or make ours less of a target.

It's as good a solution as any, the advantage being that there's no removal tool you can buy for ball bearings in the bolt heads, except an angle grinder.

And if the thieves have one of those it's going to get off any "security" hinges

And it's a cheap solution, under £5
