I am making a list of modifications I want to do to my 90. Could people post here, all the modifications they have done\planned, so I can get more ideas.
I don't mean suspension lifts and engine mod's, I mean the clever little things you have added.

As an example, I am going to fit a 90 license-plate lamp above the passenger seat, with its own switch, and change the bulb to green. This will then be a night-navigation light.

I am also going to fit a switch to the back door, so that the passengers in the back can operate the rear wiper too.

You may.....proceed.
 
I have fitted upgraded or additions: snorkel, tyres, wheels, lift kit, Hi-lift mount, swinging spare wheel carrier, cuddy box, pioneer kit brackets/fixings, CD player. polybush kit, disc braked rear axle, spot's on bumper, roof lights, rear seats, 100 amp altenator, electric fan.
In the future, i want to upgrade the intercooler, optimise the fuel pump, poss. upgrade the turbo, fit bigger tyres, county interior, roof lights and side windows, new seats and moe speakers and an amp for the stereo.........can;t think of anymore at the moment!!!
 
I think I perhaps phrased the question badly. I am interested in the clever little ideas, such as the navigation lights I explained above.

One of danwiththedefender's ideas was a good idea.

100 amp alternator for all the extra navigation lamps and equipment you intend to fit .
 
I fitted a folding plywood table into the rear bodywork of my hard top. It comes down to protude just past the wheel arches, has folding legs to support it when in the down position, folds out from the bulkhead to the back door, and folds away flush with the body panel when not in use. It makes an ideal work surface for in-field repairs and is excellent for brewing-up on a grand scale!!!

I also fitted 'fold-flat' lashing loops into the floor pan so that I can secure items of varrying sizes, yet could still (for example) stick the washing machine/tumble dryer/dishwasher in if necessary.

Also have a heavy duty electrical cut-off switch just infront of the passengers seat.

Other than that its all the usual suspects I'm afraid...

I cheated! I went down to B&Q and bought a few padlock clasps (see picture), which I bolted down the centre line of the floor using stainless nuts and bolts with a large drilled plate washer underneath (externally) for strength. A little silicone underneath as you place them keeps a watertight seal (not that you need that in a defender!!!). I then put a couple down each side of the wheel arch boxes as well. You can use bungee cords or straps (with a small D shackle, also available from most hardware shops), and you can put them wherever YOU want them. They don't sit TRULY flush, but they are near as damn it and, even if I do say so myself, they work bloody well!!!

No worries. Not sure what sort of max loading they would take, but I use them to secure everything from my travel fridge to my winching kit and high-lift, and that then takes in some fairly rough drives too!!! I would say that, whilst not a heavy-duty, industrial solution, they oughta work just fine for securing most medium density loads.

Now that is what I was after! These sort of ideas.
Utterly genius!

I fitted small 'u' bolts to the tub for the same purpose, but they don't sit flat. I saw the expensive folding devices at Sodbury, but didn't want to pay silly money for them.

Padlock clasps are genius!

More in this vein please.

Hi,

Here is a modification for my Defender.

My old man gave me an old ammunition case, the type that hold two large rounds for tanks. It fits exactly to the width of the load area in the rear with space to open it fully and get down the sides.

I plan to clean it up and respray it, then bolt it to the floor and add a lock bar to secure it. Then get some foam and line the interior so that a shotgun, and various other valuables can be stored in it.

Anyway there is my plans for my personal modification.

We sell a flat cargo strip which has removable and movable tie down clips - One of our customers during a fitting asked if we would mount this rail below the roof gutter along the side of his ex-military 110. We did without a clue why! When asked he said that he worked for a charity and that this vehicle went to alot of shows and events. His intention is to hang a plastic leaflet holder down each side of his vehicle. Maximising his space!
