Hi,

I have done a search for this topic but nothing was returned. I guess that it's because LPG is too short to search for. Anyway, I'm looking to buy a Disco and would love a V8 however I don't have an oil well so my options are Diesel or LPG. Whenever I talk to people about the LPG conversions they say that they aren't all the are cracked up to be. Could someone give me an honest comparison?

As for the diesels the 200 & 300 seem to be a bit underpowered so would I be better with the TD5?

All help is appreciated so commments on your experiences or links to resource websites woudl be great.

Thanks

Hi

My old series 3 2.25 petrol used to do about 17mpg so I converted it to LPG with an unleaded head and the consumption dropped to about 12 or 13 mpg. But the engine did run alot better, no real increase in power, it just ran alot smoother. The fuel savings were very good but it would have taken me along time to recoup the costs of conversion. It also depends on where you live as to availability of LPG.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. LPG is readily available everywhere near me so that's no issue. I am surprised to hear how much the MPG dropped once you had the conversion. Is this normal?

Any V8 I would be looking at woudl have already had to been converted to make it worth my while.

Anyone had both LPG & Diesel or even one from a 200/300 TDi to a TD5?

I've got an LPG Disco 2. I tried a diesel, but the lpg was better and the fuel made it nearly as cheap to run. If you get one, make sure it has a multipoint injection system on it, that way you hardly notice when its on lpg.
If I started again I would consider a chipped one, but my engine sounds great and it tows better than the diesel.

think carefully before deciding. what is the car for?
for me the performance is secondary, so the diesel is the one.

if you get a v8 with lpg already fitted, make sure its been done correctly and has a certificate.
if you are doing it yourself, remember that 1500 quid buys a lot of diesel.
i dont use my disco every day. it would take me yrs to get that amount back.
