Its an LM Rangerover with lpg conversion.

The cabin heater can only blow hot, but when it does the lpg cuts out and onto petrol.
If I turn the temp guage down a touch then the lpg cuts back in but the temp goes cold, so no inbetween.

Help

Many thanks in advance

sounds like it may be something to do with the temperature sensor, possibly, have you checked the water level? also check the temperature of the pipes to the vapouriser

Water level done, pipes checked and its been pluged in. The max temp we can get it is 70.
There is some thing somewhere and sure it would be quite simple once pointed in the right direction.

Cheers for the quick reply

make the lpg kick in at 20 degrees, that should be plenty warm enough for the vap to work, then try it again, what system is it and how is the water side connected, i.e is it t'd or run through the vap in series.

if it is set to kick in at 70 then it could be sensing the water is too cold if it is on the return pipe from the heater matrix. it shouldnt but its just a long shot!

etag seems to ring a bell. The way its been plumbed into the heater system has been a problem that is supposed to have been corrected as it was td into the out from the heat exchanger but now comes direct from the engine.
Bit of hair pulling going on and just trying my best to give the garage a hand.

Not sure what temp its set to kick in at, the 70 was the temp we could get the engine too but should be 95.

The link to the cabin heat is the puzzling bit.

Again many thanks

mine was t'd into both pipes when i got it so i put it in series between engine and heater. is the vap higher than the expansion tank, even if its marginal i would lower it to avoid air locks, the engine should be getting hotter. what does the temp guage say on the dash? it should be around half way on the guage!

it does sound like a water problem to me, air locks can be a bugger with lpg and rr's in general!

the thermostat should open at about 86 degrees i think so if the heater is working the stat should be ergo engine is higher temp than whatever your using to read the temp???

Gav,

Sounds like you hit nail on head there.
The vap is slightly higher than the expansion bottle and was Td into system.
The vap is now in series but never thought about the hight.
Shall report back.

Many thanks

The problem you have is that the LM RR's use an electronically controlled tap to vary heat output in the cabin - your LPG system has bypassed that, cant remember the correct wat to do it,too much wine on board:p

Would there be any chance you will be sober enough in the morning to remember the fix as its going into the garage first thing.

on that assumption then the vap will need to be in series and before the 'tap'. and lower than the exp. tank! lower the vap ASAP or you risk a whole lot of trouble!! air locks and overheating are a major concern on RR engines and its best to avoid any question of the vap causing any trouble from the outset!

so, you want it rigged like so: engine-vap-heater-engine. logically you could do with a bypass between the pipes to the vap to balance the flow and so not restrict the cabin heater. as an ex plumber i know they used these on the old heating systems. when mine is eventually going again i shall be sorting a bypass out so as to avoid any trouble. i suspect tho it will not be a problem to the engine without it as the heating circuit is not a vital part for the engine running as you can bypass the heater matrix with pipe when it is shagged. however it does help the cooling to a degree but in summer when the ambient temp is high the cabin heater is off so all that ****e is irrelevant!! lol!!

Its been done and fixed.

Vap was located correctly but not piped up, also recommended to get a second regulator but that can wait.
The cabin heat problem was a broken stat behind the dash.

Impressed by the garage, Grange Ln in Accrington, very good service from them.

Cheers for all the help in here.
