hi just bought myself a 1996 rr 4.0 running on petrol and lpg .The problem is it runs fine on petrol but when on lpg and i pull up at a T junction or lights the revs just drop to below 250rpm and the engine cuts out .When i start it again the revs fluctuate between 250 and 800 then it levels off after a few seconds to 750 ,800rpm.As i said on petrol no problem. so if anybody has any sugestions whats wrong i would be gratefull to here there ideas.

what gas conversion have u got is it single point or sequential one if its sequential it could need resetting mine did it and it was overfuelling it had petrol going into oil when it was on gas and cost me £200 to get fixed hope thats a help

hi thanks for the reply. Its a sequential system.I had to take it to a garage so it is booked in for the forth of jan for a service .I told the guy what the problem was and he said that a service should fix the problem .He would connect the laptop up and reset the computor and that should solve the problem. He said it would cost £45 does this sound reasonable ?.

I had the same sort of problem on my 4.6, got it serviced £160 now it works fine, guy said the filter for the LPG was so full of crud the system just couldn't feed enough gas into the engine unless the revs were up.

did he say where the lpg filter was fitted, and what system have you got?

Hi funnily enough the guy at the garage said the first thing he would check is the filter in the engine as they get blocked up.Do these filters cost much.?

I always thought LPG conversions were supposed to save money.
The way you guys talk, it doesn't seem like you will save much if any at all.

Hi
if you get it fixed can you let me know because i have spent £2000 on conversion OMVL DREAN MULTI POINT and an other £1000 trying to get it right and still not right
Your problem is just like the one i have the only difference is my one does not do it all the time mainly when cold and sometimes when you take it out of drive when stopped at lights it does tend to settle when engin is warm but you never know when it will do it.MY CAR IS A P38 4.0SE 1996

did he say where the lpg filter was fitted, and what system have you got?

Its an older "star gas" convertion done in 2003 and no he didn't say where the filter is, and I've no idea where it is.
Probably like most people I know next to nothing about the workings of an LPG system, only that it makes running a 4.6l V8 practical.

yeeha its fixed.Had it booked in for a service on the 4th jan. When he tried to connect the software it would not connect. So after 2 hours of trying he sent me off after ordering new emmegas software and leads.when i went back he connected up the laptop and he recalabrated it then adjusted the idle speed and that was that.No more cutting out at traffic lights or t junctions .And the best bit of all he only charged me £45 for the service and that was him changing the lpg filter.

Ive got a 4.6 p38 running on a believed single point conversion

on gas it stutters & the revs seem to constantly drop but not to the point of stalling, again like others here it doesn't do it on petrol & it doesnt do it if the car is on gas & in neutral.

Taking your advice & gonna get a service - just gotta find out the make.

Out of curiosity, ive got a 75 litre ( gas capacity 55 litre ) lpg tank. my dash computer puts it at between 10 - 20 mpg depending on the type of driving & i get 75 - 100 miles from a 55 litre fill - does this sound right ? should i be getting more out of it?

thanks

75 miles from 55 litres isn't good. 6.2 mpg.

You should be getting easily twice that, in town.

Get the LPG serviced...

Your right my MPG is cr*p

unfortunatly my certificate only shows the tank manufacturer not the make of the system

Cant get it serviced with out knowing who built the system

It sounds dumb but i cant find the LPg vaparisor/regulator box to give me the manufacturer,
its apparantly iobvious in the engine bay

ive found two Pitagora Emultor boxes

any ideas where to look or am i being really thick??
thanks

I suspect your local LPG specialist would have a look at it without needing to know exactly who made it, and he'll more likely than not be able to tell what make it is. Worth a try.

Any decent installer should be able to recognise the system manufacturer at a glance. If you are near the in the Horsham, Sussex area I can highly recommend Alternative Fuels in Slinfold. They look after my P38 with Prinz sequential system. Their standard service including filters (there are actually 2) is about £35.

I had the same hunting problem too. Only happened when it felt like it but apparently it has to do with the crankshaft sensor and the system trying to follow the signals given by it. We just live with it as it doesn't happen all the time but am getting to the point where I want it sorted. Maybe the quick fix is as Bobobaldy did and speed up the idle.

Right finally found the manufacturer on the vaporizer unit - stefanelli

been quoted £55 for basic service & £160 for full with tuning from battersea auto gas

so gonna tryAFS in sussex when they open tommorow - thanks for everyones help :)
