personally i think the main problem generally is that the rover v8 is not best suited to lpg.

take a bmw v8, it'll run for a million miles on lpg, but the rover's cant seem to hack the increased requirements of running on gas.

lots of people say they have had 'no problems' and that's fine, but IMO its just a case of not 'if' but 'when'

its safer to run on petrol, especially seeing as you have to pay extra to run gas, then you stand a far higher risk of having to pay out again when it harms the engine.

those that buy the car converted for a low premium and sell before it fails are the lucky ones.

shame really. L322 range rovers for instance with the bmw 4.4 are fabulous on LPG. and theyre cheaper now too.

could be a better option?

yes they are cheap again part of that problem is because they have not been serviced properly and then the oil filter collapese blocks the oil ways up andthe timing chain jumps and bends all the valves!
i have found this is becoming a coman problem to so i invested in the timing kit to do the job just a £1,000 worth but as there are not many specalists wanting to deal in this model and as i am a engine man seemed the right thing to do.
also this engine is a nikasil bore so has more inherint problems than the rover v8

Hi mate

Yeah I've services a few where ive had to basically chisel the innards of the oil filter off the centre tube, they seem to fry the oil filters. They must run damn hot cos the oil always looks burned too.

I know nikasil liners used to give a lot of **** with jaguar 4.0 and BMW v8s in general a few years back but I thought that was all sorted now??

Cheers

It is not a case of failure more when damaged finding somebody who has the special stones to rehone the bore or it has to be machined to accept a steel liner and new piston rings
