hi guys , does anyone know how to dismantle and LPG system? got a disco v8 which im nicking the engine from , it had LPG and 3 underslung tanks , either one or both are full .

do they have self sealing valves on the ends of the tanks? need to remove them as I have been chopping the front off with the torch im getting more nervous the closer I get to the pipework for the gas system

would like to reuse the system on my 90 also , if anyone can give any advice on safety for this work its appreciated

The tanks should have multivalve (single hole) units with a tap for the OUTLET, the inlet has a non-return valve. 'Four-hole' types have all the bits and pieces in four holes and there should be an outlet tap.

If it is a single-point system then probably not worth transferring, multipoint systems are far better.

Take the tanks and pipework away BEFORE you start work, there will possibly be gas in the filler pipes from the filler to the tanks.

so how would you go about removing them? this has twin underslung tanks by the way , only transferring as its usefull to have ...:)

any more info on this is needed and appreciated

cheers

Turn off the two taps on the cylinders first, disconnect the pipe to the filler point next, expect to see some gas escape, but not necessarily guaranteed.

Disconnect the INLET pipes to the tank next, might see gas there but only what is in the pipes. There should be a 2-way non-return T-piece in the filler circuit BTW.

Take off the OUTLET pipes then the LPG gauge connections.

Undo the bolts holding the brackets to the floor and lower gently.

Just fitted LPG to son's D2 V8 so fairly familiar with it all.

Tanks have 10-year lifetime, should have a label with test pressures and capacity, plus Date Of Manufacture.
