So mine has the usual corrosion at the bottom. I had it painted in May, and the painter said that it was buggered and the corrosion would come through in no time. Well it has. I stuck rubber trim a long the bottom, but that did not work well, so I removed that but now have glue and silicone all along the bottom of the tailgate. I probably will sand the bottom down, smooth it. I have found (tested) that a strip of duct tape along the bottom looks tidy (ish). I would buy a replacement tailgate but they all have corrosion! Any tips?

I had a P38 and had the same problem. I took it to a body shop h
And had it properly refurbished. They touched up a few other scratches as well, all for £200. It looked as good as new and lasted well. Get it done professionally and it won't cost a fortune.

Mine was a bit corroded, I tip engine oil in it from time to time, seems to have completely stopped the problem. The trouble is, it's an alloy skin folded over a steel frame, so electrolytic corrosion takes place. Done properly, there should be a plastic insulating tape to prevent metal to metal contact.

I thought it was quite reasonable for new :)

That seems a lot to me for a car of that age. If something mechanical goes wrong, needs fixing and costs that much then fair enough, if it's required to keep the car on the road.

I had mine done at a body shop as it was a cosmetic fix for £200. I guess that was all I could afford.

It will still come back, may prolong it a bit. But stonechip is a heavy textured finish so it will look rough. It's designed for sills not tailgates!

just find a good second hand one & have it painted your floggin a dead horse as they say patching up a rotton one,i actually scrapped a mint one last year didnt think anyone would want it,my mate has a few for sale £50 ea pm me if you want his number

+ 1 If that bad get a good second hand replacement Emmotts may have one and if lucky the right colour ? Or new :)

I picked one up from Emmotts before Christmas, currently on preparing it for painting the right colour as it came in white but it was absolutely spotless, no signs of any corrosion on it.

I would recommend trying them.

What bodyshop is that it sounds cheap. I only live round the corner from you in Cornerhouse cottages. Blue Rangie with GUN number plate. I need a few bit of bodywork tiding up.
