I need to create an access panel in my lower dash on the driver’s side, just about where I believe a speaker hole is sometimes located but on my dash there is no speaker hole.

Unfortunately it’s all fitted in place (as well as leather covered) but my sparky has screwed up and so we need access behind that area of the lower dash. I am no way prepared to dismantle everything at this stage (and accessing from above is not enough) so the next option is to put an access panel in and make it as neat a job as I possibly can.

I’m looking for suggestions on the best way to approach this in terms of making it look professional as well as secure. I’m thinking maybe a hinged panel with a keyed lock but open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Or a quick fix of an access hole covered with a speaker grill. You can put a backing over the hole first if required that the grill will cover.

I can't remember, but don't the corners just come off with minimal "taking other stuff off"?

@julianf
Only the LH side is removable for the wiper motor

@Karls
Once the clocks are removed(easy unplug) you can get to the corner easy. If not remover the heater controls for a bit of access
What are you intending on fitting as there may be another easier way?

That’s not a bad shout but I think the max speaker diameter you can fit is 4”/100mm but I’ll have to have a measure up as there will be no speaker just the cover so I may be able to get away with a larger dia hole? Thanks for that, it may be a possibility.

What's up mate? I'd guess the speaker sized hole with a speaker grill to cover seems the best option. You could actually fit a speaker there after.

My Sparky has fitted a bloody relay and fuse down there for the front spotlights (and now they’re not working - great) and christ knows what else! He reckons he can’t get to it by removing the front of the instrument binnacle as he’s put it onto the bulkhead right down low, in line with where a speaker hole would normally go.

I say remove/ unplug the the clocks & remove the steering wheel he will get plenty of acsess down there. Even if it's just to pull the relays of the mounts.
My dash is out & can take photos early morning for the amount of space there will be.
Don't cut the hole for someone else's mistakes ;)

you can get your hand on it by removing facia if its secured and you cant undo buy another and pull wiring off or cut and add new crimps

Steering wheel, cowl and clocks were all off today. There’s a lot of wiring down there as there are a few extras on the vehicle. He did try that route but just couldn’t get the access he needs.
