Ok this is my next problem. The fuel gauge stays on 3/4 tank at all times but the low fuel light comes on when I drain tank. Now would the sender be bad and low fuel light still work? I don’t want to buy a sender if it’s the gauge. How would I be sure?

The sender works via a sweep arm, so, if the light comes on the arm is sweeping, pull the sender out and show is a pic of it, my guess is the gauge is at fault. You could take the wires off the sender and connect to earth. Remove one by one to see which one is for the light. Or check a wiring diagram. You want to earth the wire for the gauge , not the light.

If your landy has been stood for a while the sweeper may need removing and the contacts cleaning.
Years ago I had an old vauxhall VX4/90 that had been stood for a while and always showed half a tank no matter how much petrol was in there. The sweeper can corrode and it 'sticks' in place, gently clean the contacts with some fine wet and dry and hopefully it will work again.

If that’s the case why does the low fuel light still work?
