Hi guys. Me again .

Just a quick one.. does anyone know for what reason the lower dash heater vents would be plated over?. The speaker holes and most the bottom of dash has been covered in duct tape. Just took it off and found the heater vents .
Cheers

Sounds like a bodge job,

When you change the flap position does it alter the air flow?

Im not sure how to check. Dont realy feel much coming out of the screen vent in eithet position. Not had a chance to take off the plates yet as dont have the tool to get em off till wkend. What would be a reason to block them up be?

Cheers

Not closing properly or the mechanism has dropped off the back and they were fed up of cold draughts? The cable that operates the flaps is long winded to change if it's broke or come off at the flap end .
Get the tape and plates off and see what you've got , if the vinyl is good everything else is fixable but removing the lower dash completely is a strong possibility to access repairs.

It's not unknown for the flaps to drop off - two flaps on a thin steel rod, held on with a couple of crap clips. No chance of demisting the screen then, unless you block off the holes - hence the duct tape.
Don't be surprised if the heater box/channel is mostly rust. Easily fixed though.

Ahh i get it now. Thanks kindly for your guys info. I have a feeling the heating doesnt work at all as i only feel air coming out of the screen vents when driving and the fan up/down dont change anything..

Had a quick look under the hood and looks to be disconnected. Will have to have a proper look when i get some daylight at weekend.

Cheers

Heres what it looks like in bay

Also while im at it. Could anybody kindly shed some light on what this thing is bolted on the washer bottle? .

Plus washer motor makes a noise but nothing comes out. Then found out the bottle leaks... would that stop them from squirting?

Mine is (currently) lurking in a 45 gallon drum of electrolyte out back, on, IIRC, a 10v potential difference.

Ive been putting off welding it for about a fortnight now. At least it cant rust any more if it stays under the voltage!

If the bottle leaks, surely it will be without fluid? Or is that too obvious an answer?

Oops sorry here is pic. And as to the leak it leaves about an inch of water at the bottom

Whats on the other side, where the washer bottle should be?

Should be on a bracket off the inner wing, just in front of the heater matrix.

Has the blue lump got any wires going into it? And where are the black hoses connected to?

And here. Sorry i dont know how to multiple pics.

There's certainly some odd stuff going on there.

Your heater unit - the thing on the bulkhead on the passenger side - has no coolant pipes going to it.
Its got another lump in front of it - no idea what that it - that is then connected to the blue thing.

Its a 300tdi in there, in case you did not know. The bulkhead is a 200tdi or somthing else (the fuel filter is up high on the drivers side)
