Had to admit defeat and move on from the 2001 disco and found a 2007 RR 3.6 V6 HSE with 100k on clock and in super condition. Have had it for 8 months and absolutely love driving it. Very aware of the issues with owning a LR and am hoping that I am not in for serious trouble. Problem I have is that while cruising on motorway (around 120km/hr) yesterday I get an Engine System Error and the car slows to under 80km/hr and will not accelerate. I stop and adjust the terrain selector and it gives message that "Terrain response system is not working". I turn off for a few minutes and try again and everything goes back to normal for around 2/3 km them same problem again. On way home I avoided motorway and did not go over 100km/hr and all seems ok. Going to send for diagnostics next week but anyone got any thoughts on likely problem or any similar experience - bit scared of major issues ahead.... Thanks J

Common issues are EGR valves, and split turbo hoses

it is really bad news to hear that. everytime I had problems with the Discovery in the past it was the bloody egr valve or the air flow meter. None were ever really resolved but hopefully it will be different with one.....

Can you not do away with the egr valve on the tdv8 and remove it and fit a blanking removal kit??
Will run better too :D

Done away with my EGR on my TD6

Can make adjustments to the engine ecu if you have any issues after removing it.

Will add extra years into the life of the engine once it's not being filled with crap from the exhaust !

I've done away with mine on the TD6 too (followed your write up ;) ) and noticed a good difference. I had no issues with EML's, just thought with the more modern tdv8 could possibly have issues but may be wrong !! :D

Make a repair to the pipe with some gaffer tape

That should hold you out till it gets repaired.

Shouldn't cause any harm, will only make the engine go into limp mode like you have already experienced :)

There is no EGR feedback to the ECU on the Td6, not sure about the TdV8 but most recent engines have EGR feedback, they cannot just be disabled as it will throw a fault and maybe put the engine into limp mode.

Yes there is a risk, by having a split intercooler pipe you run the risk of he turbocharger over spooling which as others will tell you is a pretty penny indeed

TDV8 needs the EGR feedback mapped out electronically, and then blanked off ;)
