They do squish! Or they wouldn't be called self adjusting ;)

No enough, you get a 0.058" needed and no room, where you gonna steal it from, grind the bottom of the push rod ?

I'm not in a fit state to explain it proper as I'm off me face on opioids ...

I've just squished an old lifter and there must be 5mm at least. Not measured exactly, just by eye

You got oil in it ?
But that's the whole point, isn't it? When the valve is closed, the spring in the lifter shows it to take up any slack between the rocker and the pushrod, lifter fills with oil, job done. If the pushrod is a bit longer, the spring in the lifter doesn't need to expand the lifter as much and doesn't have as much oil in it

So guys are you saying a ticking noise , louder when the car is cold, not detectable when revved at idle and only noticeable when the car is under load say going up a hill is a top engine problem?

My engine has had a top rebuild, perhaps something is faulty.

Thanks.

I thought hughandjen had an issue with a P38 but now we're looking at SaharaDust with a Classic?
