Replacement engine followed very quickly by new heads is a major concern. I doubt you will get the truth but it does suggest it might be a quick offload by the previous owner due to ongoing issues.

A common issue with the V8 is exhaust manifold leaks which sound just like something tapping - an issue I had with my own RRC after doing the heads & a cam & followers replacement. Immediate on startup & caused our cats to learn some interesting new words. I had a suspicion it might happen as the exhaust manifold faces were quite badly pitted & the new gaskets couldn't take it up. Refaced the manifolds & all was well. For the curious these were SS tubular manifolds fitted new some years previously & the rust pitting was appalling. The heads were unmarked.

The previous owner was an elderly gent who died last year. I have spoken to the garage who services the car and they said if anything it was over serviced and wanted for nothing. It had been sat a while doing very little mileage in the last year.
I think it could be exhaust so will take the heat shields off to see if anything is obvious
Thanks

Mine has developed a ticking noise in the last few months. More noticeable when cold, but always there. You can hear it better from inside the truck with the windows up. It is only there with the engine under some sort of load, so accelerating, going up a grade etc. with the engine feathered there is no noise at all.

My assumption has been a manifold gasket on the way out as if it were mechanical it would be there all the time, not just under load.

Marshall, did you sort this out ? Mine has the same problem as you have described. tia.

@SaharaDust No I haven't done anything about it yet, it just hasn't got that bad. To be honest, I have looked at the manifold bolts time and again and can imagine a lot of pain in removing them with them snapping etc. I do want to do it though, I have the gaskets in stock, so maybe I just need to get off my arse and make it happen!

Marshall8hp , Many thanks for your reply. I have mine back with the company who did the work on the car so i will post on here the outcome!
I also dropped a message to RPI Engineering UK who answered saying it could be a piston problem but obviously its not easy for them to detect with just a short video but i think it shows what a good company this is that they do try and help.

2 of my bolts broke the hardest to do were the bottom bolts where they connected to the down pipe

Vacuum leak ? Manifold leak? If you have seen 'loads of threads on here about ticking noises', did you read any of them ? were they helpful or informative at all ?

Dragonwalker could you link me to the threads about this ticking engine noise please as i cant seem to find them. tia.

Search Google with the LandyZone tag, should be there ...

This IS a OHC engine isn't it ?
