hi all how are you all keeping. first time post here so here goes I've owned my RR for 2 years now relatively hassle free few small issues but general wear and tear. now I have a 2005 l322 3.0d with roughly 135000 miles. now I am having a really weird issue of which the vehicle is making a loud clunking or knocking sound only at roughly 47-60mph which first started at between 55 and 60 but has now became much more pronounced it doesn't get louder with a change In speed up wards but if breaking at these speeds you can really hear it clunking at roughly 2-3 clunks a seccond until either below 50 or above 60 mph it is a lot more noticeable when breaking or if the car is slowing on its own. I had a quick look under the car with the suspension raised and cv joints looked fine but I would expect to be able to hear it at other speeds if it where a cv jointor bearing. now after a few read ups on here I believe it may be something to do with either the prop or the torque converter any one had any similar issues or anyone who posted with the same problem could you let me know what it was as none of the forum post actually stated what the problem was and they had no other posts so imagine they got it sorted. cheers for taking the time to read over my post any help will be gratefully received
 
haha thanks guys will give it a check once I get back home I work offshore and have just started the trip so 2 weeks to ponder over it. and I'll double check the wife isn't in the boot
 
just in case this helps I forgot to mention that when driving on the motorway and the suspension drops Into motorway height the noise is much more pronounced than if left locked into normal height it does still happen but you can feel it a lot more when in motorway height if this has any bearing on it
 
Try and narrow it down to a corner to start with, if it’s a CV/ UJ on a driveshaft that is seized then the change in height will require more movement in the joint.
I had a loud knocking noise on a TD6 at speed and turned out to be a brake calliper overheating and binding.
 
holiday chicken hi mate if anything it sounds like it's coming from the right side wheel area but then again could just as easily be from the centre it is deffinetly not the left side it's either from the centre ie diff (and I bloody hope not as that sounds expensive) or from the right side (drivers) wheel area been told to replace bearing and have a look at cv joint but with suspension in off-road mode I popped under and had a quick look at the cv joints none of the cv boots wear torn or seemed to have any wear on them but again will need to get it up on the ramp to be 100% sure like a said above I work offshore and have litterrally came out today so won't be doing anything to it for the next 2 weeks. really only posted on here to give me a rough idea of what to expect (and as it's a awesome forum of course)

After 2 weeks in the boot she might have quietened down a bit.

Unfortunately I have only seen the advert that says dogs die in hot cars, but it's worth a try with the other half I guess. ;)

Hi all just an update I had the jeep up on the ramp and Tues out it was my near side tie/track rod had went at the ball joint cheap enough fix picked one up online for 26 quid and done the work myself had a bit of a time getting the old one off ended up just cutting it off with a grinder job done thanks for all the support
