Fixed one yesterday and took piccies will post later...1 hour to find/gather/borrow tools...1 hour to beat child into helping....1 hour to repair

Hi Shaun
This happened to me it was my final drive main cog slipping don’t panic if it only happens when you are on full lock in reverse as this is a safety feature on the Freelander K series.

Safety feature ? please explain further, I'm intrigued. Does it stop the head gasket failing ?

Some good pointers there peeps!

Can we just confirm............... is it just the 5dr model that suffers from the cracked chassis/loose nut?

I dont think we have any 3dr models............YET ;)

Sorry NI mines a three door. and i can see the crack. Incidentally the rubber mounting seemed to quieten the whole of the back end down. Rear window wires have arrived from e-bay, the instructions look a bit daunting but i'll have a look on weekend.

Ok cheers, its good to have it confirmed that both 3dr and 5dr models suffer from this

on the principle of wot, precisely - both body styles are equaly crap?

ffs call yourself an engineer :p

On the principle of 5dr and 3dr have same wheel base length, same moncoque floor plan, different roof.

That thing that attaches the front to the back of the car (THE ROOF) doesnt just keep your head dry in the rain, but also determins flex on the whole chassis.

On the principle that Coupes have more torsional stiffness than convertables.

On the principle that 3dr has integral roll bar in the roof, 5dr does not
