Hello... Im Colin .. a RR virgin .. bought my first 96 4.6 HSE on Sat and already had some wonderful experiences... suspension sagging.. overheating.. etc.. we will get to those later on but for now.. after some excellent advice on the old posts i have been doing some checks.. now the old gal overheats when i stop so i set out tonight to check some stff and found the thin hose from the top of the left side of rad to the expansion tank was blocked.. so after unblocking it.. fired her up and bled the system ... whilst letting it idle... and this is the main thing cencerning me now.. there is a loudish "clack clack clack" from under the cover that has "4.6" on it on top of the engine.. i am sure it was not there before.. and it does get louder and faster with the revs...

Do you experienced guys and gals know what this noise could be???
Is it terminal???
Hope it is an easy fix....

All help and pointers greatly appreciated... thank you

PS. have ordered a thermostat, expansion pressure cap and water pump.. going to try those as well as flushing the rad later...

I am in Milton Keynes if anyone fancies a look .. cuppa tea/coffee and buscuits provided... :)

Thanks .. but the old gals a keeper.. an inexpensive (or future expensive) ebayer doer upper... thought i would try and resuce her from the knackers yard...

You have a few engine issues which will be a problem which will be very expensive!
Change the rad don't flush not worth the hassle.
Sounds like a slipped linner and a pours block issue for starters or a very worn can too or even a sticking valve too

Ok..... clicking turned out to be an electrical short from one of the leads on the coil pack... phew...

Have unblocked a very blocked small top pipe from top of rad to expansion bottle..

Also fixed a very leaky bank of sequential lpg regulators? on the right side of the engine..

Took it for a shake down run and it all seems fine... no leaky expansion bottle just a small hiss of escaping air, new cap should be here tomorrow...

and no click clicking sounds...

So far ok...

Glad u found what it was. So it was a click clicking not a clack clack clacking sound, a good discription will always help in get a better diagnosis. :)

Hmm..interesting reading...are you in Ireland? Sounds very much like a click, clack, paddy whack problem?
