hi guys i've just lost 1st/3rd and fifth gears on my 300disco when i had a look underneath the plug on the bottom of the front of tebell housing is missing (you can see the flywheel thru it) any ideas as to what the problem is and if the missing plug is anything to do with it:confused:

Well the plug is for timing it, so forget about that.

Sure the the linkage is not the problem, I say this because the faults are in different syncro hubs and bearing sets.

Is the gearstick not a bit vague, floppy???

If it is that, you can get good access to it by taking off the centre consol and the cover underneath it.

The bias plate for the gear stick position springs could have broken. This is a common fault with the bias plate and leaves a bit of metal floating around. This could maybe be blocking the gear selection.

If it is this, it's an easy fix.

Cheers

Andy

Yep I think that's the direction to go Andy.

have stripped her down as far as taking top off selector but looks like i'll have to disassemble low box selector too. Think i might let a proper lr mechanic at her tomorrrow lol.. cheers guys

Hi
What was the gear shift like before you lost the gears? I had the same problem on mine over a period of a 1000 miles it went from being able to use the box to being fooked! When i drained the box there was a silver paste in the bottom of the box which i am told is the internals wearing away the ally case.
