I like the P38 im just wondering if its looking a bit dated these days thats all....

That all sounds a bit keeping up with the Jones's to me. Nothing wrong with aspirations and all that but newish big gas guzzling 4x4's are not a good investment at the moment.

Buy a RR sport today for 23K and sell it in 3 years for £7K.

Or buy a mint P38 today for £7K and sell it for £3K in 3 years. You'll still feel king of the castle and with the money you save you'll be able to run it on Rocket Fuel!!

Easy to see why the P38 still rocks... after giving it a dose of Autoglym HD Cleanser and HD Wax today it looks as good as new and in no way looking dated IMHO.

hi , i am 60 yrs old and over the years have had many new marque's of cars and 4x4 also s/hand ones . i have had my 2000 autobiography 90,000 miles p38 v8 4.6 with multipoint l.p.g. cost at present 69p all black with black leather trim ,with thor engine , and without any doubt is the best car ive ever owned, make sure u get one as late reg as possible with the lpg and thor engine which imho is a briliant engine if looked after .ive had this for 3 yrs and have had a few probs but easy rectified if you listen to what the top blokes on here tell you i.e. datatek ,wammers ,the irish rover ,just to name a few good men ,but they are all well up and will help you anytime , make sure you buy one with all docs & history and at least two key fobs + radio code and eas code ,, and if you regulary service the car avg cost £180.00 and service lpg avg cost £50.00 you will reap the benefits i.e. look after the car and it will look after you ... im sure one of our chappies will go n ave a look at one with you for advice ,,,best of luck n choose wisely cheers mozz

Hi guys i didnt mean to offend with the comment about looking dated, i maybe should of said i liked the newer styling better as in sport/ disco 3/ and L322 but they are all a chunk more money than a P38 to be fair, which i still like lots to be fair..

GOODFELLA if i can find one that looks exacly like yours i will be happy black is my prefered colour but not many p38 in black is there...

I haven't been able to afford an L322 or Sport, but anyway, I'd find a fully historied (REALLYIMPORTANT) P38 4.6 for towing a reasonably heavy weight, the 2.5 diesel just hasn't the torque. Check everything works, then invest in a quality lpg system, the Thor engined cars will need a sequential system, which is better anyway and enjoy. There are mountains of independants around to keep it right if you don't want to do any work yourself and parts are reasonably priced. I was really lucky and found a japanese re-import, fully historied and no corrosion at all and stands me less than 4K including the cost of the lpg conversion. Hope this helps, davef

Never seen this before on a P38...anyone know what the boxy bump is in the middle of the dash???

Its a new fangled internal tyre pressure system that constantly changes the pressures in all four tyres up and down between 28 and 38 psi so you don't have to constantly **** around with them!!:D

I have an internal tyre pressure system on my series 3. Well, I am internal till I get out to pump up the tyres.

Thanks , mine is nearly standard except for LPG, newer wheels, and painted bumpers and grill. Spotted two nice ones on Autotrader, best one is green but thats better than black imho. Happy hunting

The green one has gone because I've just bought it.

8 grand for a p38?

You never pay the asking price and/or they give you more than yours is worth to sweeten the deal. Its the cost to change that counts and I was more than happy with that. Couldn't believe how much 65K less on the clock could improve the ride.

Its an extra speaker, more in the back as well, sounds like you're in the Albert Hall.

You will defo find it runs smoother on the standard 19' wheels. Not such low profile tyres so you won't feel every nook and cranny.

If you stuck to your budget an 08 on 36K miles is a good buy. And have to say that TDV8 is the best Diesel engine LR have produced by a mile. Almost wants to turn me into a Doozel head!!

I thought the TdV8 engine was produced by Ford/Peugeot not LR:confused:

Probably not a good choice of words Data. What I meant to say was its the best diesel engine to be put in a Range Rover so far, regardless of who designed or produced it.

Haven't driven one with the bigger 4.4 TDV8 (300+bhp) yet so I guess that's even better. I think its supposed to be more economical as well
