Hi Can anyone help with a issue I have with my 2000 2.0Ltr Diesel Freelander, when cold it runs as it should do, when after a good run and running at normal temp the rpm drops to 2000rpm even though my foot is hard down on the accelerator ! as I said it only does this when at running temp, I have heard of this fault before but have looked through the forum but cannot find any answers, can anybody please advise what the problem is more than likely to be ?

Thank You

I answered this on your other thread mate. It is almost certainly the low pressure fuel pump.

Thanks Simon I couldnt find the first thread so re qrote it !! ok low pressure fuel pump, is it a easy job to do myself and can you tell me the location of the pump ? Thanks for your help Simon.

No problem mate. The pump is located in the drivers side rear wheel arch, wheel and plastic liner will have to come off. A bitch to do apparently, luckily mine was done under warranty. They did fit a cheap one and it is really noisy, genuine ones aren't cheap though...Mine had exactly the same symptoms as yours so I'm 99% sure this is your problem. The recovery bloke put it on his code reader and this indicated a low pressure fault with the high pressure pump, don't worry this is normal as the high pressure pump isn't getting enough fuel.

A big thank you simon i will start to strip down tmro !!!

Oops OK I'll bow down to your better knowledge guys, the symptoms are the same as I had so still think it's the low pressure pump, mine is a facelift though...sorry if I've given duff info.

2000 is a difficult year to tell. This Freelander is a '2002' car, but it has the yellow indicators and the seller has described it as a XEDI....

Land Rover Freelander Xedi 2002 | Trade Me

Checking its registration history shows it as registered new in 2002 with basically 0 KMs on the clock, but the VIN (SALLNABB7YA573970) actually shows it as a 2000 model year L Series.

It was obviously sitting around for 2 years before or after being shipped to NZ and sold as 'new'.

Doesn't help this problem sorry! According to the OP's profile its a "Disco td5 es" - he needs to qualify whether its a TD4 or L Series.

Yeah grumpy - that is default late registered one. Even without the vin the Amber inserts in the headlights and the Amber side repeaters and the front bumper with seperate grill top bar gives its age away!
