hi all, got a disco 1 auto 300tdi. when pulling away it takes about 2-3 seconds to get the pace up and the engine has very little power at this point. i'm thinking of replacing the turbo hoses and fitting a sports exhaust. do you think this will help cure the problem. turbo hoses currently have allot of black oil around the edges and so does the cast alloy bit on the top of the engine that the top hose goes into. or could i be looking in the wrong place. thanks in advance for any replies and any help would be much appreciated. thanks Adam.
 
Check air filter. Ttake off air hoses, swab out with paraffin soaked rags. Take off intercooler, pour in a couple of pints of the stuff, cover ends swirl around, empty, repeat. Let everything dry. Probably not have a great effect on the initial pulling away issue but will make a difference if everything is clogged up, especially at lower engine speeds when the turbo is not forcing much air through.

Autos often take a moment to "catch up" when the throttle is opened from standstill. Especially if they have not had fluid & filter change in a very long time. Worst I ever found for that problem was an imported toyota previa, roundabouts were an act of faith!
 
Not really. Inahling is more a problem for 300s than exhaling as the turbo immediately impacts exhaust flow. A regular fluid change rarely includes transmission and its filter simply as it is quite a long job and one sometimes best left to the pros. Cleaning all the inlet pipes and the intercooler is cheaper and more likely to yield results. Tweaking the fuel pump can also be done at home for the cost of a couple of hours tinkering.

As an auto td its never going to storm away from the lights, but one thing you need to clarify, are the engine revs rising reasonably quickly, but the vehicle slow to move off (trans), or is the throttle response sluggish (engine).
 
Your inlet manifold could be full of muck from the EGR. For the cost of a gasket, it would be worth removing and cleaning it. Block off the EGR upon refitting.
300 tdi turbo hoses generally fail inside by de-laminating and sucking flat on engine over-run. But you might as well replace them while you've got it in bits.
 
have cleaned all the hoses out. its fine when cold but when hot it takes 3 seconds for the revs to get up. cant figure it out. once the revs are up shes got good power for an auto but when hot theres such a lag on engine response. also does anyone know where the air con filters are on the disco 1??
