Today while green laning in my disco 300tdi, I drove up a steepish hill and all of a sudden, I had a loss of drive. The car just didn't wanna go up the hill. First thought was the clutch, but I couldn't smell anything. I then put diff lock on and all of a sudden it was fine and I got to the top of the hill. That would suggest loss of traction, but the tyres did not appear to lose grip at any point.

Any ideas?

half shaft, cv joint or diff, or just a spinning wheel will it drive not in diff lock now??

Seems fine on the road.

I've just taken it to a boggy verge where I knew I'd lose traction, just to test it. As expected, I did lose traction and I noticed that it's less noticable in the disco than it was in the gaylander. (apart from the fact you're not moving) In the gaylander, the traction control would create a slight vibration and make a noise so it was obvious when traction was lost. Where as in the disco, there's little to no sensation when traction is lost.

Perhaps it was just a case of loss of traction earlier on today as well? Though, when I did engage diff lock during the boggy verge test, I popped my head out and noticed that the two off side wheels were not spinning equally. The back ones were spinning much more than the front. Is that normal?

In diff lock in gear, jack a wheel at a time and make sure they won't spin.

If so, all is well, yOu just need to learn to drive :D
