Hi Folks,
Im a new guy to the forum & a new owner of a 2003 freelander 1.8 petrol.
It was owned by a lady who told me it was loosing coolant before I bought it.
Anyway it is exactly as you say about the cracks on the bottle so I replaced it &
the cap but its still losing coolant so can anyone tell me where it is likely to be
leaking from if not the bottle. I had the engine ticking over for two hours & never
lost a drop.......I don,t think the head gasket has gone but I,m really stumped by it and it bothers me enough not to take it on the road for a long run.

Check all hoses carefully flexing them at connections while the engine is running. My heater hose was leaking and took ages to find. If you still can't find it probably best start a new thread on the subject.

Thanks I,ll check them more thoroughly but it must be a tiny hole that causes steam to escape
as there is never any puddles or damp patches under the car, I even removed the drip tray
since I thought the water was collecting there but it was bone dry too but thank you for
your advice.

It's a doozie to be sure, Well you may have to check all hoses and change their clamps. The problem area could be the cooling plate behind the IRD (Dont ask me how to get to it) Also should you be defiling one of Hippos guides?

fired it up and left it for half hour to heat up then checked all the hoses & sure enough you were bang on,two hoses let out water where the circlips had eaten into the rubber so when I flexed them water p...ed out.
Thanks For The Advice Folks,

No problem this time,,, but a heads up on how to hard wire a sat nav to my freeby 1.I was thinking of wiring it to the rear of the cigar lighter if I can find out how to remove it so any advice would be most welcome.

Hi Folks, I,ve been reading up on the cigar lighter post regarding taking a 12v spur from it to run a sat nav etc,
well thats exactly what I want to do but I,m finding it hard to remove the bloody thing so I can connect a
cable to the back of it without breaking it. I think my freelander is a facelift with the two cup holders
and a clock on the dash. I want to come up through one cup & put two usb sockets in it so PLEASE
tell me how to remove the cigi lighter...OR can anyone tell me why I can,t take a spur off the clock.???
THANX GUYS.

You have to pull the actual centre that hold the heater part partially out of the rest of the lighter this in turn releases the two outer peg type pieces so then you can pull the whole thing out

Hi Teddywood1, thanks for the heads up but Im not quite sure what you mean...Are you saying
I remove the lighter & then pull the socket out toward me & if that is the case then how do I
grip it before I try to remove it?.

The lighter socket is fitted to the lowest panel of the centre console. The easiest place to access power needed near the cup holders is the clock wiring. There's a permanent live and an ignition switched live supply.
I'm thinking of a similar project for my facelift FL1.

Now you,re talking Nodge,
Thats what I wanted to do from the offset but today I used the spare cable under the cubby box & put a cigi lighter socket on the other end(it was easy,I just tucked the cable under the sides of the centre consul.I want to make my satnav a permanent fixture so I was thinking of drilling through the cup holder & connecting a three way cigi & three way usb socket to my spur, blanking off the cup holders & having it sitting flush with the top & the satnav behind it with all the cables hidden in the cup holder. My only prob with that is I wont see the clock...OR I could remove the clock altogether & put my new 12v sockets in there and then trying to manufacture somewhere around the cups to place the satnav.
ANY ideas you may have I,d be grateful if you,d share them.

Thanks Again Guys.
