If you're overseas and have a 1990 or older D110 (legal for US import, so no mods or non-matching VINs or anything like that), please contact me as I'm looking to import one into the US. Will consider a return favor of exporting US cars if you're interested.
Thanks.

What is the legal position on replacement chassis? - i.e. a new chassis that does not have the VIN number stamped on it.

There is a good chance the vehicle would be scrapped at the port of entry. The US customs are extremely fastidious about Defenders.

There was a company recently caught out getting dodgy Defenders rebuilt and imported. They have subsequently seized all the vehicles imported and sold and destroyed them.

Better to import an original but tired one and restore it there. At the end of the day a done up legal 110 is worth $100k!

It has to be 100% original as from factory, I believe that Diesel is a big no no. Instead of asking for info from people that do not know the in's and out. Go to the use Customs site and check what is required to import 1. That would be your safest info. You are on very thin ice when it comes to importing a defender into the US

not sold. crushed. a few have been returned. 1 Doctor from US imported 80 or so with connections in UK imported them with Vin numbers that were very questionable. Some were even insurance write off, some allegedly stolen.

Just one?

Just one to start...I'll be selective, bring it over, get it fixed up, drive it for awhile, sell, then start all over.

To the other poster, I wish they would bring $100K!!! But alas, only a '93 NAS D110 in pristine immaculate low'ish mileage condition can get that. Many people can ask, for the big price tag, but few ever get it.

If anyone here has a mid-late 80's model D110 (4 door county) all original, no chassis change, the 2.5l diesel is OK, then 300 is NOT legal in the US. VINs must be there and matching.

And likewise, if you want to bring something to the UK, I am willing to set that up...Jeep, Mustang, F-150 pickups...I don't know what is hot over there, nor what's legal there so you'll need to do the research. But I buy and sell select cars here in the states a bit to keep me busy.

why would diesel be an issue?

diesel is ok as long as it's the 2.5L (or anything else non-modded and original that's 25+ years old). The 300tdi is not legal here in the states simply because it's a newer motor, and the truck must be 25+ years old with no mods. So it's more about mods than it is the engine.

arrrr, got you.

I understand they want to restrict imports, but my 1985 2.5 NA is not going to be a cleaner running engine than a 300tdi. It would be pretty easy to stamp the new chassis with the VIN - although this is illegal in the UK, according to another recent thread on here.

100% agree...they blanket "no mods" to cover some of the other cans of worms mods open.

what's really ironic is, you should see some of the crap on the road here and the CO2 production coming from them.

Yeah. I know what you mean. You should see the piece of crap I drive.

See the blue D110 in my sig pic. Its a 1992 so I its not time to export it yet.

It has a ladder rack, high intake, steering guard, but is otherwise standard. Its a bit shabby, I have to renew the doors and since they are really bad I was going to buy new.

Also fitting a new as original spec crossmember and removing excess checkerplate.

Would any of that prevent export as you describe?

Read this link. This guy was the only importer that did not have problems( those he imported and resold) in the custom seizure of about 160 defenders. Some have been returned . There was a Doctor who imported 80, that so far are still under lock and key by customs.

Importing info.

Just be very careful. Don't come back crying the US customs got my beloved Defender, if you made a mistake
