Ok I am new to 4x4 off roading...

I have been driving a Disco for a few months. I went on a stag do and did some 4x4ing and loved it.

I don't want to do it in my current one as it is used for work and is sign written (Would get killed if it come back with a dirty big scratch!) however am looking for a banger Disco or Defender to beat up!

I am just wondering if anyone knows of either a good free place to start out? Or if anyone/a group of you knows of any green lanes near by and fancy showing us the ropes?

I saw a place in Bradford that do a day every month for £30ish quid which is ok but if there is somewhere free even better. Plus I am thinking at least 2 times a month to make it worth getting another car.

It's called Parkwood 4x4 - just outside Bradford at Tong.

Parkwood Off Road Centre

You need to attand an introductory training course (£100). I attended recently, it was one to one training and great fun.

Once you do the course you can attend the monthly open day...

On the course you can use their car or yours.

Would suggest you attend before you buy to make sure you want more (you will).

Yep thats the place I have seen.

I am booked into a place in Ferry Bridge in January for another 1/2 day as I got the voucher for my birthday just after I got my first Disco, just been putting it off due to time and work but now its time to have some fun!

Is this the same Ferrybridge near Knottingley? Where the power station is?
If so who are you doing it with?
Thats not far from me, I might come along if theres any places left.

Yep thats the one a stone throw away from you in Ponty.

It was a WH Smiths Voucher that I got for my birthday so not 100% sure what the crack is, I am awaiting an email with the info.

The Post Code is WF8 3BL, Think she said they meet at the Premier Inn. I will find out if they run a Pay and Play system and will post any info.

WF8 3BL is the Premier inn in Darrington - which is even closer to me...
Can't say I've ever seen any Landy's meeting in the carpark before though.

I'd be interested to hear more though.

Yer they meet there and go to the off road site not far away apparently, my day was cancled due to snow but is booked for the 17th.

WH Smiths are doing them for £75 at the moment as I have bought 2 as presents.

I went to frickley 4x4 for my 1st time today and it was realy good. My cousin bought a 90 this week so went in that and was fun. So much so I have just bought one my self! lol

Up for doing some more off road or on road stuff around the area.

Just need to sell some of the discos and collect the 90 and I am ready!

I'm in South Yorkshire, but up for laning anytime .. depends when and where though .. ;)

ermm its by a resorvoir u go up the side of it and you come to a house on the right hand side and opposite that there is the green lane , it goes on for about a mile or so i recon its ok i guess.

If you go on kirklees council website .. Kirklees public rights of way

if you put in your postcode and you can search for byways.

I found one up at ainley top however this has been blocked off by a gate with a lock.
